Random Musings

As I sit at work, and yes I write posts from my phone, I can't help but ponder the events of my life. Recently a friend mentioned she might delete her Facebook account and it got me thinking, what do I really use my Facebook account for?

When I really sit and think about it I'm not sure if having one is even a good idea. Whenever I post something I'm always concerned about what other people will think or say. I know that seems silly and overly worrysome, but anyone who knows me well will undersand why that bothers me to such an extent. So I have now been contemplating deleting my personal Facebook account. I know some will say, Facebook is a great way to stay in touch with friends and family but I would much rather receive a phone call or text message.

I miss actually seeing and speaking to the people I love and associate with.

I have made up my mind, I am going to delete my Facebook account. However, I am going to start an account for Lalee Cakes so I can continue to post pictures of cakes I make.

Besides, with my blog and Facebook I feel like I have too many social networking sites I am trying to keep up with and maintain. If you disagree with my decision, so be it. I don't expect everyone to understand, and that is ok.

I am content with my decision to delete my Facebook account. I'm not sure when I will have the time to do it, but soon.

Happy bloggin y'all!

We're going on a RoAd TrIp!

With Nicks new job he get holidays off, paid! YAY!

OH YEAH!

So our road trip will take us through Globe., to check out the downtown area. Then on to the Gila Valley Temple, neither of us have seen it. Next we'll hit Morenci and check out the mine where Nick used to work. And we end by taking some super windy roads to the Whiting Homestead! Can I get a what what?! Haha.

We are very excited to have a few days to ourselves.

We have been abundantely blessed and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

July Vacation

In July my husband and I had the delightful opportunity to spend 10 days in the White Mountains. Can I get a "woot woot?" Thanks. It came at a perfect time since Nick and I were in desperate need of a vaca.

On a Thursday evening we headed up to the Whiting Homestead for part one of our 10 day get away. Friday, Saturday and Sunday were the Ernest Whiting Reunion. This was my first time to attend a Whiting reunion. Normally these reunions draw hundreds of people, since the Whiting family is quite large. This Reunion, however, ended up being much smaller since threat of fire kept us guessing until last minute, whether or not we would actually be able to go up north.

The Reunion was so much fun! I think the last time I went to a reunion was when I was 10 or so. So this was new experience for me! And it was great! We were able to spend 4 whole days with Nicks family, what a blessing it was too.

After four days we headed over to Pinetop/Lakeside for part two of our 10 day get away! We spent the next 6 days hanging out with my parents, siblings, and our nephews! It was a blast! However, I did become addicted to "angry birds" which was NOT the highlight of our trip, I seriously can't stop playing it. Technology, sheesh! Anyway, back to our trip.

The first day we wee able to spend with just my parents, since none of my sibings would be up until that evening. It was so nice to relax and enjoy the cabin. We had lot of fun watching movies, playing games and going for walks to the country store. I am already looking forward to next summer when we can do it again! I am also looking forward to next summer for the HUGE Whiting reunion we will be attending, and when I say huge, I mean it, like 800 people huge! Yikes!

A monsoon met us on our way to the reunion, doesn't the sky look gorgeous?!

We went exploring around the mountains near Greens Peak. It's so beautiful and peaceful here.

Here's Nick running with his hands up trying to scare some Elk so we could get photos of them running, Tina took those shots, and I took this one...

My hubs and I were driving around Sierra Trigo when we found some animal remains... I should say several animals remains... gross.

I had to include this shot of our truck, it looks good. :)

We hiked to the top of Sierra Trigo, I thought I was going to die. Nick's so great, he just kept encouraging me to keep going.

I realized after we got home that I didn't pull out my camera when we were at the cabin with my family. Oops. Hope you enjoy our trip as much as we did! 10 days went by WAY TOO FAST!

Learning

I have come to realize that I am soooo stubborn! And sometimes I am sooooo whiny! I think I can pout just as well as a child who isn't getting what he/she wants. Wow...

Marriage definitely takes a lot of getting used to and learning how to work with your spouse. I would like to tell you all that I am so extremely thankful for my wonderful husband. He is so patient with me and so willing to compromise. I am often displeased with my reaction when he is always so loving and considerate of my feelings.

I LOVE being married to Nicholas Borden!

I am so THANKFUL for a loving Heavenly Father who has blessed me so abundantly.

I am so AWARE of the good man He has blessed me with.

Thank you Nick for being such an amazing man and husband. I am constantly in awe of you.

I LOVE you Nick Borden!

Love, Ashley :)

July Wedding

The weekend of July 17th my husband and I were in Cottonwood, Arizona for our friends wedding! What a FUN weekend we had! We spent a lot of time preparing for this wedding, since I was not only a bridesmaid but I was also making the cake! I am so thankful for my sweet husband who spent many hours with me, supporting me and telling me how great everything was coming along with the cake, I'm a bit of a perfectionist with my cakes, especially when they are for friends and family, I want everything to be flawless!

So Saturday after work, we packed up our little VW Beetle, I should say we stuffed it as full as it would go, because we also had to bring the wedding flowers with us and pick up my friend Valarie who was also a bridesmaid! Our car is absolutely fantastic, I don't care what Nick says about it. Anyways, after loading up and picking up Val, we embarked on our two hour journey to Cottonwood Arizona for a weekend of wedding fun!

The fun began the moment we arrived, immediately we joined in the rehearsal, all decked out in my sweat pants an heels! It was super fun! Then the wedding party headed in to town for some grub at a local pizzeria, the food was sooooo good! I might even be willing to make a special trip back just to partake in the goodness of that pizzeria, again... we shall see. After dinner we all headed back to the resort and stayed up way too late preparing for the wedding day!

The day of the wedding arrived and everything was perfect! I don't know how to describe how perfect it all was, so I will just show off the pictures! Enjoy!

Getting all prettied up so we look good :)

I LOVE this wedding cake, and yes, I made it!

Happy Fathers Day

For Fathers Day this year my husband and I could not decide what to do for our Fathers. So we decided to give them gifts that were fun and something everyone would enjoy!

COOKIE BOUQUETS!

I have seen the websites that sell these bouquets of deliciousness and I thought they would be perfect! However, they are quite pricey and generic so I decided to make them myself! And to prove my successful gift endeavor I documented the whole thing!

I began by mixing up one batch of my Grandma Daniel's delicious sugar cookies.

After mixing the dough, I used stars, circles, and flower cookie cutters. Then I inserted a cookie stick in each cut out, then into the oven for baking!

After the cookies had cooled completely I began mixing up the glaze for decorating them!

I made 3 colors of glaze, a blue, golden yellow, and brown. I outlined each cookie with glaze and allowed it time to set up before filling them in and decorating.

I think they turned out pretty cute! I have soooo many ideas for the next time I dive in and make some more!

Happy Fathers Day to all the Dad's out there!

Lalee Cakes

I would like to inform everyone that I have decided to change my pastry blog from "pastry palate" to Lalee Cakes, which is the name I chose several years ago for the cake business I hope to have one day. The Lalee Cakes blog is still under construction but is open for viewing! Www.laleecakes.blogspot.com :)
